What this code covers
Source · Editorial summary grounded in 3 cited references ↓
95907 is the lowest tier of the nerve conduction family. The codes are chosen by the total number of studies in the session, not by limb or nerve. A sensory study counts as one, a motor study counts as one whether or not an F-wave is recorded with it, and an H-reflex counts as one.
One or two studies is a small exam. It fits a narrow follow-up, such as rechecking median sensory latency after a carpal tunnel release, or a focused check of the peroneal nerve after a knee dislocation. A full carpal tunnel workup almost always runs higher.
Report 95907 once per date of service, no matter how many limbs were tested. Do not add units. Needle EMG done the same day goes to 95885 or 95886, not 95860 to 95864.

Work RVU vs. total RVU
The work RVU (0.98) is the surgeon's own effort — the figure physician pay and productivity targets are built on. The total RVU (2.82) adds practice overhead and malpractice, and is what drives the Medicare payment below.
| Work RVU | 0.98 |
| Practice expense RVU | 1.79 |
| Malpractice RVU | 0.05 |
| Total RVU | 2.82 |
| Medicare national rate | $94.19 |
| Global period | days |
Payment by site of service
Medicare pays different rates by setting. HOPD typically pays substantially more than ASC for the same procedure.

Common denial reasons
The recurring reasons claims for CPT 95907 get rejected.
Source · Editorial brief grounded in CMS NCCI edits, AAOS coding appeals, and cited references ↓
- Billed with more than one unit
- Study count in the report does not match the code
- Paired with 95860 to 95864 instead of needle add-on codes
- Diagnosis does not support nerve testing
