Mira Operations vs Tennr: Fax and Referral Automation for Orthopedics

An honest comparison of Mira Operations and Tennr for orthopedic practices: what each publishes about inbound fax, referrals, eligibility, prior authorization, intake, and integrations, plus seven questions to ask any vendor.

Comparing: Tennr

Mira Operations and Tennr both read the paperwork that arrives by fax and move patients forward without staff retyping it. Tennr is a broad patient orchestration platform with published depth in documentation collection and prior authorization across many service lines; Mira Operations is built for orthopedic private practice and puts fax, form filling, intake, and eligibility on one patient record.

We build Mira, so we are not a neutral judge. Here is how we compared.

How we compared

We read each company’s own public pages and compared only what each publishes. We did not use review sites, leaked pricing, or secondhand claims. Where Tennr does not publish something, we say “Not published” or “Ask the vendor.” That means we could not find it on its public pages, not that it does not exist.

What we checked, October 2026:

  1. Inbound fax and referral handling.
  2. Missing documentation and follow-up.
  3. Eligibility and benefits.
  4. Prior authorization.
  5. Patient-facing intake.
  6. EHR integrations named publicly.
  7. Specialty focus, go-live timeline, and pricing.

What Mira Operations does

Mira Operations is the automated back office inside Mira, the AI operating system for orthopedic practices. It handles what arrives by fax and what patients fill out before the visit, and keeps both on the same record.

Inbound fax, sorted the way an orthopedic office sorts it. Every fax is read as it arrives. Mira recognizes its type: referrals, records requests, surgical clearance letters, workers’ comp paperwork, signature requests including PT plans of care, prior authorization, billing, lab and imaging reports, pharmacy, and scheduling. It matches the fax to the provider and patient, routes it to the right queue or person, and assembles related pages into one packet.

Workers’ comp paperwork with the claim already attached. When a workers’ comp patient called in through Mira Concierge, the employer, date of injury, claim number, adjuster, and nurse case manager were captured on the call. When the adjuster’s forms arrive by fax, Mira matches them to that claim and fills them from the record.

Post-op paperwork routed to the surgeon. PT plans of care and other signature requests for patients inside a global period go to the surgeon or PA who owns the case, so they get signed instead of buried.

Forms filled from the chart. Workers’ comp, FMLA, and disability forms are filled from the chart, intake answers, and every form the patient already provided. Gaps are flagged, never guessed. Staff review and sign. $5 per completed form, billed only when used.

Patient intake. Branded digital forms, a dynamic form that asks only what each visit needs, Mira Passport so returning patients confirm instead of re-entering, insurance card capture, real-time eligibility, text and email reminders, save and resume, and kiosk mode.

Prior authorization surfaced early. Real-time eligibility flags authorization requirements before the visit, and incoming payer requests are matched to the patient for staff to work.

Into the chart. Mira integrates natively with Epic, athenahealth, ModMed, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, and DrChrono, and builds new EHR integrations in one to four weeks. It also produces PDFs that match your real forms.

The phone side, on the same record. Mira Concierge answers the calls that start most of this paperwork: acute injury triage by body part, workers’ comp intake, post-op and global period routing, and injection and imaging scheduling. It warm-transfers to staff with a spoken summary, texts patients two ways during the call, and natively speaks English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Hindi, Russian, Japanese, and more. Mira Scribe and Mira RCM run on the same platform for documentation and billing.

What Tennr is and who it is for

Tennr describes itself as “an agentic patient orchestration platform built for policy-grade decisioning and patient flow at scale.” It serves DME and manufacturers, infusion providers, fertility clinics, physician groups, hospitals and health systems, and specialty pharmacies.

Its strengths, from its own pages:

  1. Intake from any source. Tennr says it “automatically classifies and routes patient data from any source,” pulling data from faxes, charts, and insurance plans.
  2. Chasing what is missing. It identifies missing documentation, requests it from referring providers, and pulls records from HIEs and connected EHRs. Its homepage notes that missing documentation is the most common reason patients stall.
  3. Prior authorization as a core focus. Its physician groups page says Tennr “prepares and submits cases the way the payer requires and tracks them through to a decision,” and it checks documentation against payer criteria.
  4. Eligibility and benefits. It runs real-time eligibility across every plan on file and investigates benefits by phone.
  5. Phone coordination. It answers inbound calls “in their language and on your scripts,” handles status questions, and collects missing information.
  6. Prioritization and oversight. It surfaces orders that need attention first and completes high-confidence work automatically with quality control.
  7. Published results. It publishes a case study headline of referrals taken 75% faster at 4x the volume for a home medical supplier.

Tennr is built for organizations with high referral and order volume across service lines, where documentation and authorization drive whether a patient moves forward.

When Tennr is the better fit

  1. You run several service lines. If you operate DME, infusion, or specialty pharmacy alongside a physician group, one orchestration layer across all of them is a real advantage.
  2. Prior authorization is your bottleneck. Tennr publishes submission and tracking to a decision, plus payer-criteria checks. If authorizations are where patients stall, look hard at that.
  3. Missing records are your bottleneck. Tennr publishes outreach to referring providers and pulls from HIEs and connected EHRs.
  4. You are a health system. Tennr serves hospitals and health systems directly.
  5. You already have intake, phones, and billing covered. If you only want the referral and authorization layer, a focused orchestration product fits.

When Mira is the better fit

  1. You are an orthopedic practice. Fax types are sorted the way an orthopedic office sorts them: workers’ comp paperwork, PT plans of care, surgical clearance letters, imaging reports.
  2. You want fax and intake on one record. The referral that arrives by fax and the intake the patient completes before the visit build the same record, with eligibility run against it.
  3. You fill a lot of forms. Workers’ comp, FMLA, and disability forms are filled from the chart for $5 each, with gaps flagged for staff.
  4. You want the phone and the paperwork connected. Claim details captured by Mira Concierge on the call are already on the record when the adjuster’s fax arrives.
  5. You want one vendor across the practice. Mira Operations, Concierge, Scribe, and RCM share one platform, one contract, and one support team.

Seven questions to ask any vendor

These are the questions we would want a practice to ask us too. Ask them of every vendor on your list, and get the answers in writing.

  1. What share of faxes are handled without staff touching them, in a practice like ours? Ask for the number measured at an orthopedic practice of your size, and how “handled” is defined: classified, routed, filed in the chart, or fully resolved.

  2. Which of our fax types do you recognize today? Bring a week of real faxes: workers’ comp forms, PT plans of care, clearance letters, outside MRI reports. Ask which are recognized out of the box and which would be configured for you.

  3. What is the go-live timeline in writing for our EHR? Ask for a date tied to your EHR, your fax lines, and your number of locations.

  4. Are there EHR vendor fees on top? Some EHR vendors charge their own per-provider or per-connection fees for third-party integrations. Ask who pays them and whether they are in the quote.

  5. Where does the patient’s own information come from? If the vendor does not run patient intake, ask how insurance cards, history, and consent forms reach the same record as the fax.

  6. Is pricing shared before the sales cycle? Ask for an all-in number early, including per-page, per-fax, per-authorization, or per-location fees.

  7. Will you sign a BAA before we send a single fax? Faxes carry referrals, imaging, and clinical notes. Get the signed agreement first.

Verdict

Tennr is a patient orchestration platform for DME, infusion, fertility, specialty pharmacy, physician groups, and health systems, with published depth in documentation collection, payer criteria, and prior authorization submission and tracking. Mira Operations is built for orthopedic private practice and puts inbound fax, form filling, patient intake, and eligibility on one patient record, on the same platform as the phone agent, scribe, and billing. Multi-service-line organizations whose bottleneck is referral-to-authorization may be better served by Tennr; orthopedic practices that want fax and intake handled together may be better served by Mira.

Frequently asked questions

01What is the difference between Mira Operations and Tennr?
As of October 2026, Tennr describes itself as an agentic patient orchestration platform that classifies and routes patient data from faxes and other sources, collects missing documentation, checks eligibility, and submits and tracks prior authorizations across several healthcare segments. Mira Operations is built for orthopedic practices and combines inbound fax, form filling, patient intake, Mira Passport, and eligibility on one patient record that writes back to your EHR.
02Does Tennr work for orthopedic practices?
Tennr lists physician groups among the segments it serves. Its public pages checked in October 2026 do not name a specialty focus within physician groups, so ask Tennr directly about orthopedic workflows such as workers' comp paperwork and PT plans of care.
03Does Tennr include patient intake forms?
Tennr's public pages describe collecting missing information through outreach and calls and confirming intake details by phone. They do not publish a patient-facing intake form product, so ask Tennr. Mira Operations includes digital intake forms, a returning-patient record (Mira Passport), insurance card capture, and real-time eligibility.
04Which handles prior authorization better?
Tennr publishes that it prepares and submits cases the way the payer requires and tracks them to a decision, and prior authorization is a core focus. Mira surfaces authorization requirements during real-time eligibility and recognizes incoming prior auth faxes and matches them to the patient for staff to work. If authorization submission across many service lines is your main bottleneck, evaluate Tennr closely.
05Which EHRs do Mira and Tennr work with?
Mira integrates natively with Epic, athenahealth, ModMed, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, and DrChrono, and builds new EHR integrations in one to four weeks. Tennr's public pages refer to connected EHRs and HIEs without naming specific systems as of October 2026, so confirm your EHR with Tennr.
06Do both sign a BAA?
Every Mira account includes a signed BAA. Tennr displays a HIPAA badge on its site. Ask any vendor that will read your faxes for a signed BAA before sending patient data.
